Designing Direction Signs for a Community
How directional signs can provide clear wayfinding while celebrating the heritage of a community
The Hong Kong Community in Manchester came to us with an idea for a set of street finger posts that would be a little different from the usual directional signs. Alongside local destinations, the signs were designed to include Hong Kong, giving the wayfinding a clear connection to the community group.
It's a great example of how directional signage can be about more than simply showing people where to go. The destinations chosen for a finger post can tell people something about a place, its history or the community that uses it, making the signage feel much more connected to its surroundings.
The same approach can work in all kinds of locations. Parks might highlight local landmarks, heritage sites can point towards historic features, and community spaces can include destinations that have a particular meaning to the people who use them.
At Earth Anchors, we manufacture finger posts in the UK and can create them around your chosen destinations and layout. If you have an idea for a directional signage project that needs something a little different, get in touch with our team to discuss your requirements.
