How one boat owner found a tougher, low‑maintenance alternative to timber

At Earth Anchors Ltd, we're always looking at how recycled plastic lumber can solve real‑world problems. One recent example comes from a boat owner who rebuilt the gunwale of his vessel using recycled plastic lumber.

Gunwales take a lot of punishment out on the water; sun, salt spray, knocks from mooring, and constant wear. Timber in that position is exposed on all sides, so it can split, swell, or rot over time. Recycled plastic lumber sidesteps those issues. It doesn’t absorb water, it won’t crack from repeated wet–dry cycles, and it stands up to UV and harsh weather far better than traditional wood.

For Connor, who has spent countless days on the water, the choice carried extra meaning. He’s seen plastic waste wash up along the coastline, so rebuilding his gunwale with recycled plastic felt purposeful.

Using recycled plastic lumber happened to tick a few extra boxes for him, but at the heart of it, he just wanted something that would last and wouldn’t give him grief out on the water.

If it also means less waste and fewer repairs down the line, that’s a win most boat owners can get behind. In the end, the practical option and the better‑for‑the‑planet option turn out to be the same thing.

At 0950 on 8th July we ordered a "Bronze Garden Plaque - 150 x 100mm".At 1047 the same day recieved and email with a document attached showing excatly how our plaque/wording would would look. We confirm the ordered and recieved email to confirm this.On 17th August recieved an email confirming the plaque was ready and a delivery date.The plaque arrived on the due date, with the ability to track the plaque which was well packaged on arrival.Very happy with the plaque and the great service we had from Earth Anchors ( Debbie Nichols and Stephanie Thorpe).

I recently bought a Surrey 1M picnic table from Earth Anchors. It took a little longer to arrive than the original estimate and we woke on the morning of delivery day to find it already on the drive outside the house.The table is well made and sturdy and a perfect fit for two people in our small garden. It will also fit four with a chair added at each end.Only problem encountered during assembly was that four of the pre-drilled holes were a bit off meaning the screws hit another which had been fitted earlier during assembly. We had to drill another hole to get round the problem. I have added a photo to show this.I’m confident our Surrey 1M picnic table will serve us well for many years.
