What are the benefits of our outdoor teak benches and seats?

Renowned for its exceptional durability, teak garden furniture owes its longevity to the hardness and natural oils inherent in teak wood. This quality makes it an ideal choice for outdoor furniture, capable of withstanding diverse weather conditions and lasting for years. The natural oils in teak impart a beautiful, enduring golden brown hue that slowly turns to a soft silver grey in sunlight.

Can teak wood crack?

Teak, being hygroscopic, may develop minor splits or cracks, called checks or end-grain checking, due to fluctuations in humidity and temperature. This natural occurrence is more prevalent in denser sections and at the end grain, contributing to the weathered patina. Despite this, teak remains exceptionally robust, and this typically does not compromise the structural stability of your furniture.

Will my bench develop a patina over time?

When left untreated, teak will develop a soft silver patina over time; regular annual cleaning helps maintain this appearance. To preserve the original teak colour, applying teak oil can be used but is unnecessary to prolong its lifespan.

Can I leave the teak bench outside all year round?

Yes, you can leave teak furniture outside, 12 months of the year. Teak wood is renowned for its remarkable durability and water repellence. Despite being porous, it is naturally high in protective oils, which makes it resistant to moisture, rot, warping, and splitting. However, compared to furniture used solely in the spring and summer, teak may accumulate more dirt and necessitate additional cleaning and maintenance.

How long will my teak bench last?

Teak is an exceptionally durable hardwood and is highly resistant to the elements. Our teak garden and park seats and benches can endure for over 20 years with minimal maintenance requirements. In fact, the teak lumber these benches are made from can withstand decades outdoors and remain in excellent condition.

How are the benches secured to the ground?

The teak benches are versatile, suitable for either hard or soft ground and can be secured using ground fixing kits. These convenient kits come complete with bolts, screws, brackets, and anchors, offering an ideal solution for firmly anchoring benches and seats. They effectively deter theft, prevent accidental tipping, and discourage unauthorised relocation of outdoor furniture.

Do I need to assemble my new bench?

No, all our teak benches are delivered already assembled and ready for your enjoyment.

What type of wood is teak?

Teak wood, extracted from the Tectona grandis tree found in South and Southeast Asia, is a dense, fine-grained hardwood. Its natural hue is golden, boasting a smooth grain and texture. Rich in natural oils and rubber, teak exhibits exceptional strength, durability, and resilience to harsh weather conditions and decay, requiring minimal treatment for preservation.

Opting for hardwood over softwood is essential for outdoor furniture due to its numerous advantages.
